Vitamin C

Perhaps more research has been performed on vitamin C than any other nutrient. In addition to being a potent antioxidant, vitamin c is one of the most important vitamins required by our bodies, and vitamin c is required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It is necessary to form collagen, an important protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Vitamin C is essential for the healing of wounds, and for the repair and maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant. Antioxidants are nutrients that block some of the damage caused by free radicals.

Vitamin C deficiency can lead to dry and splitting hair; gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and bleeding gums; rough, dry, scaly skin; decreased wound-healing rate, easy bruising; nosebleeds; weakened enamel of the teeth; swollen and painful joints; anemia; decreased ability to ward off infection; and, possibly, weight gain because of slowed metabolic rate and energy expenditure. A severe form of vitamin C deficiency is known as scurvy, which mainly affects older, malnourished adults.

It is important to include plenty of vitamin C-in your daily diet, or because our bodies cannot manufacture or store it, take it in supplement form each day.

Introducing, Young Living’s Super C

Super C™ is fortified with with the following ingredients to balance electrolytes and enhance the effectiveness and absorption of vitamin C. The essential oils that are added may also increase bioflavonoid activity:

  • Vitamin C helps the body manufacture collagen for connective tissue, cartilage, tendons, etc., and is used for proper immune function, as well as an antioxidant.
  • Citrus bioflavonoids are anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, antiviral, and anticarcinogenic. They have been used to prevent heart disease.
  • Rutin helps prevent capillary fragility, easy bruising, swelling, and nosebleeds.
  • Calcium carbonate is needed for healthy bones, teeth, and joints.
  • Cayenne (red pepper) has been traditionally used as an aid to digestion. It also possesses the ability to break down blood clots.
  • Zinc is crucial for proper immune function and is needed for proper action of many hormones, including insulin and growth hormone. It helps improve wound healing.
  • Potassium is required for proper electrolyte balance and to prevent high blood pressure.
  • Essential Oil of Orange (Citrus aurantium) helps reduce fluid retention.
  • Essential Oil of Tangerine (Citrus reticulata) is an anticoagulant and helps decongest the lymphatic system.
  • Essential Oil of Lemon (Citrus limon) promotes leukocyte formation and increases lymphatic function.
  • Essential Oil of Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) has been used for disinfection and cellulite elimination.
  • Essential Oil of Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) is antiparasitic, antifungal, and promotes digestion.

Here’s an interesting, recent news story:

Vitamin C: Cancer cure?
By Marie McCullough
Philadelphia Inquirer Staff Writer
Posted on Sun, Jun 18, 2006

Is mainstream medical science ignoring an inexpensive, painless, readily available cure for cancer? Mark Levine mulls this loaded question.

The government nutrition researcher has published new evidence that suggests vitamin C can work like chemotherapy – only better. But so far, he hasn’t been able to interest cancer experts in conducting the kind of conclusive studies that, one way or the other, would advance treatment. For the rest of the story click here

Are you taking vitamin C every day? Let me know if you would like Super C or Super C chewable? I’m looking forward to speaking with you soon.
